Project Details:
Oamaru Adventure Park utilizes the surrounding landscape for a series of aerial adventure activities including ziplines, an aerial ropes course, an adventure tower and outdoor rock climbing on the quarry cliffs. The park will also include natural play areas, event space and bunkhouse-style accommodation.
How Did We Help:
Select Contract’s extensive experience consulting in the New Zealand leisure, recreation, and adventure sectors allowed us to make attraction recommendations that are operationally and financially feasible and well suited for the visitor market.
The Brief:
In November 2015, Select Contracts was engaged to assist Waitaki District Council by examining the current visitor attraction mix in Oamaru and the wider district. The main goal was to suggest ways in which the existing attractions could function better together and where gaps exist, what could be created to encourage more visitors, longer stays and increased visitor spending in the region.
Our Approach:Â
Several key objectives were considered when proposing new and improved attractions for the district. These included; creating unique leisure attractions suitable for a broad age range, creating a destination that will draw guests from regional, national and international markets, bridging seasonal visitor gaps with activities that are operational all year round, maximizing the use of the indoor and outdoor spaces in the area and providing a solid return on investment for the project developers.
The Result:
The outcome of the above works outlined a number of potential attractions for the Waitaki District Council to pursue and one of those was an Adventure Park next to the Blue Penguin Colony in Oamaru. Select Contract’s scope of work was expanded to include the conceptual design and business planning for this adventure park attraction.
