Reefton

Location

Reefton, New Zealand

Client

Project Details:

Reefton is located within the Buller District, in an upper and inland portion of the West Coast Region neighbouring the Victoria Conservation Park, which is New Zealand’s largest park at 180,000ha. The park is popular for recreational hiking, biking, hunting and fishing, with many old mining tracks throughout the hills for access.

How Did We Help:

Select Contract’s extensive experience consulting in the New Zealand leisure, recreation and adventure sectors allowed us to provide valuable insight into the existing market and community needs.

The Brief:

Select Contracts was engaged to perform a market and feasibility study to collate and analyze information concerning the town of Reefton, the Buller District, West Coast Region and New Zealand.

Our Approach:

This market and feasibility study involved an assessment of the local climate, geography, land zoning and notable sites; an analysis of the domestic and visitor markets to the town, district and region; and an analysis of the leisure and entertainment market available in Reefton and the surrounding region. This information helped to identify potential new and rehabilitated recreational and attraction opportunities and assess market demand for each offering including local, regional, national and international visitors.

The Result:

This study allowed us to provide recommendations for components that would meet the needs of the local community while also increasing visitation to the area and to effectively assess the commercial viability of the proposed components.
