Whakarewarewa & Tokorangi Forest Uplift Services

The Whakarewarewa & Tokorangi Forest project includes gondola-accessed bike trails, a suspension bridge, F&B, rental and retail infrastructure, spa facilities and unique luxury treehouse accommodation.

Select Contract’s extensive experience consulting in the New Zealand leisure, recreation and adventure sectors allowed us to provide valuable insight into the existing market.

In addition, our operational experience and experience in producing Master Plans for dedicated lift-accessed bike parks provided valuable knowledge around the ideal layout and the necessary infrastructure required for a successful attraction. 

 

The Brief:

Select Contracts was engaged in October 2018 to conduct the market research to devise the commercial and technical viability of installation of uplift services into the Tokorangi and Whakarewarewa forest block developments.

 

Our Approach:

The first stage of this report collated and analyzed information concerning the leisure, recreation, sightseeing and mountain biking markets in Rotorua and the North Island, as is pertinent to the site. It also provided case studies that demonstrate best practices in the field.

Using this information we made recommendations on potential attractions to include on the site that are economically sustainable, environmentally low-impact, and reflective of the vision for the land by key stakeholders. 

 

The Result:

The knowledge base of this document informed the business planning process and allowed the design team to produce two master plan options that include unique and commercially viable attractions.
