Project Details:

As part of Whistler Blackcomb’s development plan ‘The Renaissance Project’, Select Contracts designed a 145,000sqft indoor adventure centre which included a water park, day lodge operations for skiing and several supporting attractions including a bowling alley, entertainment centre and bar/restaurant.

How Did We Help:

Select Contracts was the lead consultant on the leisure components of Whistler Blackcomb’s $345M multi-year development plan called the Renaissance Project. Our extensive experience designing indoor entertainment centres and water parks around the world and comprehensive knowledge of Whistler’s existing market allowed us to provide valuable insight throughout all phases of the project.

The Brief:

The project’s objective was to;

a) assist the ski resort in bringing non-skier guests during the winter

b) to fill the resort during the shoulder seasons and bad weather days and

c) to provide leisure attractions to guests after they finish skiing for the day

Select Contracts was engaged to conduct market research, business planning, master planning, schematic design and detailed design for this building as well as several other elements.

Our Approach:

Throughout this process, we assessed the regional and visitor markets to understand the demographics, expected revenues and to provide facilities for the best possible guest experience. We also approached the project with a strong focus on Whistler Blackcomb’s sustainability goals; energy, waste, mountain ecosystems, awareness and education and social.

The Result:

The resulting design included an adventure-focused waterpark with a wave pool, water slides, standing wave surf pool and designated child and adult swimming areas. The facility also included a 10-lane bowling facility, a family entertainment centre and restaurants.
